A ‘Safe Place’ Workshop for community groups and individuals
Grey Bruce, like communities across Canada, is mobilizing to support displaced Ukrainians fleeing war in their country. Grey Bruce community members, groups, and agencies came together at the first ‘A Safe Place’ workshop in March to learn how to prepare for the potential arrival of refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan. Bringing Ukrainian Newcomers to Grey Bruce is the second Safe Place workshop hosted by Welcoming Communities Grey Bruce. The workshop will focus on sharing tools and information to welcome and support arriving Ukrainian newcomers. There will be information for groups and individuals who are making plans to bring Ukrainian newcomers to Grey Bruce, already hosting them in the region, or interested in supporting Ukrainian newcomers in the community. Local and provincial experts will provide information about community resources, the role and responsibilities of newcomer hosts, and about federal, provincial, and local supports for host groups and Ukrainian newcomers.
The workshop includes time for questions and will launch the Newcomer and Host Support Network, a regular meeting hosted by Welcoming Communities to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge to build local capacity.
