Sikh Heritage Month was initially acknowledged in Ontario in 2013. Today, various regions across Canada have embraced this commemoration of art, heritage, and culture. Sikhism, a religion and ethnicity originating in Punjab in the late 15th century, has deep roots in Canadian communities. According to the 2021 Census data, Grey-Bruce is home to 290 individuals of Sikh faith. Over the decade, the Sikh population in Bruce County has surged from 0 in 2011 to 125, while in Grey County, it has risen from 75 to 165.

GBLIP acknowledges and celebrates Sikh Heritage Month, honoring the rich cultural contributions and diversity of the Sikh community. Together, let's promote understanding, respect, and unity among all residents of Grey Bruce.

“During this Sikh Heritage Month, let’s remember that our diversity is our strength, and our strength lies in our unity.”
